President's wife calls for collective effort to end drug abuse

She urged parents to brace-up at all times to constantly monitor their children and wards to avoid falling into societal ills which are capable of destroying their future.

The Wife of the President, Mrs Aisha Buhari, on Monday in Abuja, called on government and relevant stakeholders to intensify effort to end drug abuse in the country.

The call is contained in a statement signed by Malam Zakariyau Nadabo, the Director of Media to the wife of the President, to mark the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.

Nadabo quoted her as saying that ``the collective efforts by relevant stakeholders to end the drug abuse had become necessary to ensure free drug society.''

Mrs Buhari reiterated her determination to continue enlightening Nigerians on the dangers of drug abuse and illicit trafficking, particularly among children who were vulnerable to the scourge.

She said that her pet project ``Future Assured’’ initiative was targeted to enhance well-being of women and children who were at the disadvantaged group in the society.

``A society like our own, in which children are used or compelled to succumb to questionable circumstances is very disturbing,’’ she said.

She commended United Nations for reawakening the global community about the imperative of looking the way of children and the issue of illicit trafficking as this would impact positively to achieve the objective
